Es ist soweit – Der Tresor.West kommt!

Vor ca. 18 Jahren hatte ich schon einmal den Plan, in der Nähe meines Geburtsortes Werl einen Tresor.West aufzubauen, als Pendant zum Berliner Tresor. Die Location, die ich damals entdeckte, war ein heruntergekommenes kleines Heizkraftwerk einer ehemaligen britischen Kaserne, relativ einsam in einem Waldgrundstück gelegen. Andererseits war die Location aber aufgrund des nahe gelegenen Autobahnkreuzes verkehrsgünstig angebunden. Alles perfekt.

Ich erinnere mich noch gut, wie die Verhandlungen mit der örtlichen Politik von Beginn an schwierig verliefen. Tierschützer meinten, die beheimateten Fledermäuse könnten die Lautstärke eines Technoclubs nicht ertragen. Wir konnten dem anhand eines Gutachtens widersprechen. Fledermäuse leben zum Beispiel gern in Kirchentürmen und sind bei Glockenschlägen von 90 Dezibel (und mehr!) nicht aus der Ruhe zu bringen. Es ging hin und her mit dem Pro und Contra. Damals, Mitte 2002, war es DAS Sommerthema im Lokalblatt Werler Anzeiger.

Am Ende musste ich jedoch feststellen, dass der Tresor.West unerwünscht war. Ich habe alle Pläne in der Schublade verschwinden lassen. Schade, dachte ich mir. Ort und Zeitpunkt passten anscheinend nicht. Dabei hatte ich vor, meiner ehemaligen Heimat etwas Besonderes zu geben. Ich war damals fortgegangen, weil ich immer nur ein „Nein“ hörte. Meine Ideen und Pläne waren Ende der 1970er Jahre tatsächlich etwas ungewöhnlich für den ländlichen Raum.

Dennoch glaube ich – heute wie damals –, dass ein neuer Tresor-West ein Treffpunkt werden kann, in dem Bewegung und Kommunikation unter jungen Menschen mit großen und kleinen Visionen möglich ist.

Nun also Dortmund. Everybody is welcome!

Dortmund wird in der internationalen Technoszene auffallen. Und das bedeutet auch, dass Künstlerinnen und Künstler hier eine Plattform für ihre Karrieren finden können. Tresor-West bietet sich darüber hinaus als ein Experimentierraum für weitere Ausdrucksformen im Bereich Licht und Sound an. Geben wir der Entwicklung Zeit und freuen uns auf den Anfang!

It’s time – Tresor.West will open.

About 18 years ago I had an idea to open a Tresor.West near my birthplace Werl as a counterpart to the Berlin Tresor. The location I found at that time was a run-down small power station at the site of a former British barrack. It stood relatively alone in a forest area but was accessible by a highway and was the perfect site.

I still remember how difficult the discussions with the local politicians were from the outs3t. Animal rights activists said the local bats couldn’t stand the volume of a techno club. After speaking with the experts we could see this was wrong. Bats, for example, like to live in church steeples where they live undisturbed by the sounds of the ringing church bells (which can reach 90 dBs or more!). The argument went back and forth and the issue was hottest topic of the summer in the local Werler Anzeiger.

In the end however we had to accept that Tresor.West was not going to happen. All my plans went up the chimney. Too bad, I thought to myself. It was the wrong place and the wrong time. I wanted to give something back to my former homeland. I left the area in the fist place because I would only hear a “No!” to all my ideas. To be fair, these ideas were often quite unusual for rural areas at the end of the 1970s.

Nevertheless I continue to believe – as i did then – that a Tresor.West could serve as a meeting place where young people can interact with each other and share big and small ideas and visions for the future.

Now it is here. Dortmund will be the site for this new club.

Artists – both local and international – can find a platform here. It will be an experimental space for forms of expression in light and sound. Let’s look forward to this old new beginning.
